THE ALCAN SINGERS

Our season is progressing well; we have been spreading ourselves around singing at a variety of venues throughout the local area.

On Easter Sunday we were at the Rogerstone and Bassaleg Social Club (Alcan Club), in support of the ladies committee who were holding their annual Easter Bonnet parade, we sang a mixture of music, some light, some a little more suited to the Easter theme, all of which were well received, and a raffle was held with the proceeds going to the Alcan Singers.

We gave a concert at the 0xford House in April; we entertained a ladies discussion group, it was great for a group of all males to sing to an audience made up of ladies, the show went well and a good time was had by all.

Mid May we were invited to sing at a very special wedding, the happy couple Ms Louise Gough and Mr. Phillip Forman. The venue was the nun's priory at Llantarnam Abbey. This was only the third wedding held there, and the first this year.

Two days prior to the big day, we were at the abbey for the rehearsal with the happy couple, we sang the requested songs for their approval and organized ourselves to where we would stand during the service.

The big day began with drizzle rain but the sight of the bride looking radiant more than made up for this. During the service the Alcan Singers boosted the congregation by singing the hymns, then, whilst the bride and groom moved off to sign the register, we entertained the congregation with our own version of "She" followed by Ave Maria and to finish, Close to You. With the ceremony over it was outside for the photos and it had stopped raining. To top off what had been a great service, the happy couple then had their photo taken surrounded by the Alcan Singers to add to their special day.



We have one more concert booked for May, which has been a busy month for us, if there is anyone interested in becoming part of the great time we are having, come along to the Alcan Club on a Wednesday evening and join in our rehearsal, 7.30 - 9.30pm
