Rogerstone RFC

Rogerstone RFC has enjoyed many successes since its formation in 1973 when it was originally named as Bassaleg High School Old Boys.

Throughout those years the club enjoyed a deserved reputation as a friendly and welcoming club who, as a Chairman of another club once put it, “Would always give you a good run for your money”. Off the pitch the club enjoyed a strong supportive membership, a lively social scene, toured annually and raised funds for numerous local charities which included the Special Care Baby Unit of the Royal Gwent Hospital and
St. Anne’s Hospice. This year we have supported the Handicapped Children’s Pilgrimage Trust (HCPT).

Since reforming the club at the beginning of 2005 it has progressed far in excess of the original expectations and at the end of last season we had a squad of over forty four players. In addition we have also attracted a healthy following of supporters at each game which has been very encouraging for all concerned.

Considering we are a new and ever developing team, our “on the pitch” results have also been very respectable, which included us achieving a decisive victory of 12 points to 8 over an experienced and established local club.

Community identity and family participation is very much at the heart of this club and it would not be unreasonable to say that over our first year we have achieved both of those objectives and developed probably the most successful club in the immediate area.

We are approaching the forthcoming season with great optimism and hope that we can build on the success of our first season by attracting more players, and by using our Web Page, Email and Text Messaging service, we have been able to keep our players and supporters up to date and in touch with everything that is happening.

We are a club representing the community of Rogerstone, based in the community and sourcing players from within the community. We will never pay players as we feel that representing the club and Rogerstone is its own reward.

With the continued support by members and sponsorship, we hope to increase the profile of the club so that future generations can have the opportunity to represent the community and wear the badge of their community with pride.

It is our intention to take the club forward every season and a warm welcome will be extended to any new players – whatever their experience - who would like to join us.
