Boredom and alcohol abuse are some of the reasons for anti-social behaviour in our community today.
Many years ago, young people would happily spend their free time, entertaining themselves with harmless games and, with the exception of the odd ‘scrumping’ or ‘knock out ginger’, no serious incidents of anti-social behaviour would occur.
Unfortunately, things aren’t the same today and a small minority of young people have started drinking alcohol, which causes a problem for some residents.
The police are always looking at new ways to solve this problem. These include visiting off-licensed premises, increasing police patrols and, where necessary issuing anti-social behaviour orders.
Parents can also help by noticing whether their children’s behaviour has changed over time. They may be drinking alcohol and thus could be acting in an anti-social manner when away from home, causing misery to other members of the community.1
Since the arrival of the neighbourhood policing team in Rogerstone, we have identified certain youth needs and have obtained a mobile skateboard park, which will be used in the area during summer months. We have also established funding for youth shelters to be erected in the Rogerstone and Graig communities.
The neighbourhood policing team would like to take this opportunity to encourage residents who are interested in setting up a Neighbourhood Watch Scheme to contact Rogerstone police station on 895019 and leave a message.
